17 November Merseyside event: Preparing for the Illegal Migration Act

Events

Join Right to Remain and These Walls Must Fall at Asylum Link Merseyside for a discussion event as we begin to prepare our communities for the impact of the Illegal Migration Act.

Preparing for the Illegal Migration Act
Friday 17 November
12:30pm-3:30pm
at Asylum Link Merseyside

registration form below

The Illegal Migration Act is now law. We are just waiting for the commencement orders which will start enforcement of the most worrying sections of the Act. This is not another change to the asylum system, we are looking at the end of the asylum system as we know it. We need to think collectively about what this will mean, and what we can do on Merseyside to prepare. At Right to Remain, we have been running a programme of online sessions about the act, and last month we ran a session in Manchester, which you can read about here.

Interested? Read on, and see the booking form below for this event happening in Merseyside.

Who is this event for?

  • Grassroots community groups of migrants, refugees & people seeking asylum.
  • Community and voluntary organisations working in solidarity or providing support to migrants, refugees & people seeking asylum.
  • Advice and information services for migrants, refugees & people seeking asylum.

What will the event be like?

It will be an informal meeting to share with each other how we are preparing our communities to face the impact of the Illegal Migration Act (IMA). We will have a run-through of the changes that the IMA will bring. A panel of invited speakers giving their thoughts and perspectives. Breakout discussion groups. Open discussion and Q&A

We will look at:

  • What we know about the IMA so far: what has changed, or is about to change.
  • The impact the IMA might have on our communities.
  • How to prepare for the changes.

Who is organising the event?

Right to Remain is a migration justice organisation working across Britain. They provide information, resources, training and assistance to help people to establish their right to remain, and work to challenge injustice in the immigration and asylum system.

These Walls Must Fall, Merseyside is a group of campaigners with direct experience of the immigration and asylum system. Supported by Right to Remain, they are organising to build the movement for migration justice.

Asylum Link Merseyside is an organisation dedicated to assisting Asylum Seekers and Refugees in Liverpool and to raising public awareness around refugee issues. It is a welcoming and safe place for people from all countries to meet, relax and find out about the city they have arrived in. Asylum Link provides friendship, help and advice and encourages the participation of asylum seekers and refugees in the service.

SUPPORT OUR WORK

On reaching the UK, people face a hostile environment. Without help, many will be forcibly sent back to the wars, persecution and misery they have fled.

Your donation will help us to help people in their struggle for the right to remain in the UK, and to campaign for migration justice
