New edition of AVID’s handbook for detention visitors

Legal Updates

Are you supporting someone held in immigration detention, or want to know more about detention in the UK?

AVID (the Association of Visitors to Immigration Detainees) have released a new edition of their excellent handbook for visitors to those held in immigration detention.

The handbook has been completely revised and updated for 2019 and includes new chapters on bail, legal issues, immigration and asylum law, detention in prisons and much more.

The guide is packed with information on visiting skills, along with technical and practical information.

It covers what to expect when entering an immigration detention centre, how to start those initial conversations, how to support vulnerable people in detention, legal supports, detention law and policy, getting out of detention, and removal and deportation.

SUPPORT OUR WORK

On reaching the UK, people face a hostile environment. Without help, many will be forcibly sent back to the wars, persecution and misery they have fled.

Your donation will help us to help people in their struggle for the right to remain in the UK, and to campaign for migration justice
