The campaigner who designed this t-shirt, Fami* lives in Sheffield and campaigns with These Walls Must Fall as part of the ‘Voice for Voiceless Immigration Detainees Yorkshire’ (VVIDY) group, and South Yorkshire Migration and Asylum Action Group, and is a football coach in Sheffield. He speaks several languages, including French, and has mentioned this phrase in interviews as something meaningful to him and his experience. It was also the inspiration for the name of the group – VVIDY – he is a part of. He explained the inspiration for his design:
“Je veux permettre aux gens qui lisent nos t-shirts a travers ceux qui les portent de comprendre qu’il y a des organisations et des personnes capables de faire entendre leurs souffrances ou leurs problèmes. Notre objectif est aussi d’interpeller publiquement les autorités et la population sur les conditions de vie des minorités qui ne peuvent pas s’exprimer.”
“I want to enable people who read the messages on our t-shirts to understand that there are organisations and people capable of making their plights heard. Our objective is also to challenge publicly the authorities and inform people about the (dire) living conditions of minorities whose voices are silenced.”
Funds raised by these t-shirts will go directly to the local These Walls Must Fall campaign in Yorkshire, helping people at risk of detention to lead the campaign to end the system.
T-shirts are priced at a minimum £16.00 donation – UK postage is FREE. However, if you are able to afford it and would like to donate more, please consider adding a few pounds 🙂 Postage in UK is included in the price, rest of the world there is a small charge for postage.
