Join us at our Birmingham gathering for the National Week of Solidarity to End Immigration Detention

Events | News

It’s just a few weeks now until the National Week of Solidarity to End Immigration Detention. At Right to Remain, we have been busy organising actions and events in our communities. This year, we will be holding a local solidarity gathering in Birmingham on Thursday 22nd October 2026.

We are working hard to build solidarity networks in pursuit of migration justice through our public legal education and campaigning. The Right to Remain Toolkit and online Knowledge is Power workshops are one way we can connect and share information across a national network, but with life increasingly moving online, we also want to create a physical space to connect whenever we can.

At the Birmingham Solidarity Gathering, we will be thinking about what kind of future we want to campaign for, and what we can do collectively to make this happen. Part of this means understanding the realities our communities face right now, with the Home Office’s continued focus on enforcement and a loud far-right presence.

The gathering will give us a chance to hold space and learn with lived-experience campaigners who will share their realities of living with the threat and memory of immigration detention. We will run a mini workshop to talk about how we can build collective safety from immigration enforcement sharing practical actions and ideas. We will find creative ways to share stories, ideas and messages of hope, and share food and drink together.

The National Week of Solidarity to End Immigration Detention will run from 19–25 October 2026. For one week, we’re calling on communities across the country to organise actions, events and creative interventions, to demand an end to immigration detention and to stand in solidarity with people harmed by the harshness of the immigration system.

Tell us what you’re planning – we want to hear your ideas! Let us know if you’re thinking about organising an action so that we can connect you to people in your area and help amplify your event.

If you are based in the Midlands, you can also join us at some creative events in the lead up to the solidarity gathering:
