We say farewell to our Legal Education Officer Leah

News

In August, we said goodbye to Leah, our Legal Education Officer, who had been part of the Right to Remain team since December 2022.

Leah joined us as our second Legal Education Officer, tasked with boosting the immigration side of the Toolkit and our public legal education work. Previous to her joining the team, the Toolkit was known mainly for its asylum-related material. Leah was invaluable in strengthening existing and adding new legal education material to our bank of resources, breaking down the complex and often volatile world of immigration law.

Leah developed and delivered workshops and resources that made immigration rights more accessible, including training sessions on the 10 Year Route and Fee Waivers and migrant workers rights.

Leah researched and gathered information and insight from others meticulously and conscientiously and had exceptional attention to detail in everything she did. Her clear, concise and accessible style, both in writing and delivering workshops, helped people to increase their knowledge about the asylum and immigration system. Critically, her skills and deep respect for others increased our community’s confidence to navigate the hostile asylum and immigration system sense and helped them regain their sense of agency, which is often eroded by the system.

Leah was an excellent team mate, bringing a calm, warm and also playful atmosphere to the entire team and to the migration justice movement. It was thanks to Leah, whose positive influence sustained a cooperative and collaborative team spirit, that Right to Remain managed to thrive and produce a high volume of high quality work in an increasingly challenging environment.

Leah is leaving us to join the legal team at Wesley Gryk Solicitors. While we are sad to see her go, we are excited for everything she will bring to her new role as she works toward her goal of becoming a solicitor.

Thank you Leah, for everything you gave to this work and to our community. You will be greatly missed, and we wish you all the very best for the future.
