Safety isn’t conditional.
Join us for this Radical Solidarity Hub meeting where we will unpack the Government’s “earned settlement” proposals. These proposals would keep more people under immigration control for longer, increase enforcement risk, and drive more people into poverty and destitution harming our entire community. We will look at the proposals – what they’re really measuring, who gets treated as “worthy,” and who gets pushed further away from security.
Our starting point is that security, belonging and safety aren’t rewards. They’re part of human dignity. We’ve seen this “deserving vs undeserving” logic used again and again by successive governments to divide people, to justify harshness, and to make insecurity feel normal. And even on the government’s own terms, people are most able to “contribute” when they have security. Safety is the foundation for this.
In this meeting, we aim to:
- Understand what the earned settlement proposals are, how it is different from the existing process and what is still unclear.
- Understand what a government consultation is, and how it can help us understand the government’s framing, what it is treated as “worth” and “deservingness” and the direction of potential changes to migration policy
- Hold space to talk about concerns, impacts, and questions safely and identify the likely lived impacts
- Mapping, next steps
We hope you will leave feeling more connected to others, more grounded, and more energised with clearer next steps and shared points of contact.
The meeting is free to attend. Please share with your networks and allies.
