The Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration (ICIBI) has extended the deadline on its call for evidence on Home Office communication with people without status. 

It is calling for anyone with ‘knowledge or first-hand experience’ of Home Office contact with migrants who are without leave to enter or remain to respond. 

The deadline has just been extended to 21 October 2024.

What is this call for evidence about? 

This call for evidence is about the ways in which the Home Office makes, maintains and re-establishes contact with people – particularly those without leave to enter or remain in the UK. This includes people seeking asylum, and those on other immigration routes. 

If you have experience or knowledge or the following issues you can respond:

• How the Home Office records personal contact details
  Such as your name, date of birth, address, and other contact details.
  
• Clarity of Home Office correspondence
  How easy to understand is the communication you receive from the Home Office?
  
• Reporting conditions – in person or over the phone
  Do you experience problems with your reporting conditions?
  
• Receiving (or not receiving) letters from the Home Office
  What are the consequences of missing letters from the Home Office? For instance if an asylum claim is treated as ‘withdrawn’, but the person does not receive the letter.
