Help us honour Dr Pious Nyandoro’s life and get a Right to Remain t-shirt & tote bag

News

We’re inviting our community to support a special fundraising campaign in memory of Dr Pious Nyandoro. When you make a £50 donation here and send us the required information (see below), you’ll receive a Right to Remain t-shirt and tote bag as a thank you for your support.

Your donation will help honour the life and legacy of Dr Pious Nyandoro while raising vital funds for the organisations and communities he helped build.

Pious was a lifelong community organiser, activist, academic, and, above all, a much-loved father and friend. He was also the co-founder of VVIDY (Voice of Voiceless Immigration Detainees Yorkshire) and the Co-Chair of ASSIST in Sheffield. He spent two decades seeking asylum in the UK, enduring the uncertainty and hardship created by the UK’s Hostile Environment policies. This fundraising campaign aims to replenish the funds used for his repatriation while investing in the organisations and communities that continue the work and values he dedicated his life to.

The name of this fundraiser is ‘5 marathons in 5 days for Mental Health, Solidarity and Justice’. From 28 July to 1 August, Eve (VVIDY and ASSIST) and Jake (ASSIST) are turning grief into power. They are hiking 130 miles (209km) around the Peak District (5 marathons in 5 days) tracing a giant orange heart across the landscape to reclaim a symbol of welcome.

To take part, simply make your donation to ASSIST Sheffield, then email us with your donation confirmation, postal address, and t-shirt size so we can send you your Right to Remain t-shirt and tote bag.

You can also read the full statement from VVIDY Sheffield, an organisation co-founded by Pious, to learn more about his legacy and the purpose of this fundraising appeal. This is an opportunity to wear your solidarity while helping to honour the life and legacy of someone who dedicated his life to fighting for justice.

What’s included?

For every £50 donation, you’ll receive:

  • One Right to Remain t-shirt – you can choose from our signature NoOneIsIllegal and These Walls Must Fall t-shirts, or our newer Migration is Life design (subject to sizes in stock)

Wear your solidarity

Our merchandise has always been about more than just a t-shirt or a bag. It represents a commitment to standing alongside people seeking asylum, migrants and refugees, to imagine and build a future where no one is illegal and migration is life.

Through this campaign, we hope to honour Pious’ extraordinary contribution to the migrant justice movement, transforming our grief into solidarity and power.

Thank you for your generosity.
