On 29 April, we ran a workshop as part of the 2024 Stand Up! Speak Out! Training Series.
Stand Up! Speak Out! is a training series developed by members of Solidarity Knows No Borders (SKNB) – a community of migrant justice organisations working together in solidarity for dignity and justice. The aim of this training series is to share information, knowledge, and strategies to resist the hostile environment, in its many forms. The series is designed for those working in public sector services, such as social care, health care, housing, schools, charities and community settings.
Our session covered how to use the Toolkit, including how to use the search bars on the website. We emphasised the importance of using the Toolkit like a search engine, rather than a book. Our interactive activity on how to use the Toolkit invites participants to practise using the search bars to answer specific questions they might have.
We also ran an interactive activity on the difference between legal advice and legal support. This exercise asks participants to consider specific scenarios, and group them under either legal advice or legal support.
Understanding the difference between legal advice and legal support is so important, especially in the context of the legal aid crisis, and ever-more hostile law and policy.
It was a great session. A huge thank you to the organisers at Stand Up! Speak Out! for facilitating such a great series of workshops!
You can still sign up to workshops in the rest of the series.
