Immigration Raids: Community Discussion 27th February

Events

Right to Remain are hosting a community meeting on immigration raids on the 27th February, 11am-1pm, online.

The Labour government has recently announced a number of high-profile anti-migrant measures, which have caused fear and confusion across UK communities. It is clear that the government is making immigration enforcement a top priority. It has announced a ‘fresh wave’ of raids and deportation attempts across the UK, boasting of the numbers of people who have been targeted.

This community discussion will cover:

  • The basics of immigration raids: what they are, what your rights are, and how to support your community
  • The new citizenship ban for certain migrants (particularly refugees) enacted by the Labour government

Join us to learn more about immigration raids, and connect with individuals and groups across the UK who are working in this area. We will be talking through the basic points in this updated legal update on Immigration Raids, and providing space for groups to share our resources on the topic. Please note this is not an in-depth, practical training on how to resist an immigration raid. We hope this encourages you to connect with local anti-raids groups in your area, and other ways you can support your community.

This meeting will also hold space to talk about another anti-migrant measure enacted by this government – a citizenship ban for certain groups of migrants. We stand in solidarity with all migrants affected by this rule change. Please note: we are not immigration lawyers so we will not be able to provide individual legal advice or respond to individual questions.

Join us for this community discussion to learn together about how we can resist, educate ourselves, and support one another. During the Rwanda plan many communities across the UK came together in solidarity with migrants affected to say: ‘not on our watch’. This time is no different, we will resist again. Stay informed, stand together!
