If you are subject to ‘immigration control’ it is possible that at some point during the legal process, you could be held in immigration detention. Detention is not prison, but it is very similar. It is a harrowing experience, and it is very important to be prepared for it. Not everyone that could be detained is detained but it’s important to learn about immigration detention – even though it’s not a nice thing to think about – in case it happens to you. It’s very important to be prepared in case you are detained, because if it happens it will happen suddenly.
